Game 5 – Battle of the locked gate
The invader’s plans had become apparent. Plans within plans led to this, a mass assault across 4 warfronts resulting in the total commitment across the loyalist lines.
As the forces of the warmaster amassed, loyalists received fresh reinforcements from the Wolf Lord but as they mustered they were set upon by Solar Auxilia forces, a common and unfortunate pattern. The warriors of Fenris would not be held back and tore into the traitors and secured their landing zone.
At the western flank, Ephemeral trickery resulted in two loyalist factions attacking each other. The Imperial Fists and White Scars clashed, each thinking the other had turned traitor, when in fact they had actually remained loyal to the Emperor. The damage was done though and it took the presence of the Khan himself to bring the battle to an end, but the traitor’s goals had been achieved.
At the centre of the battle line the Night Lords and Iron Hands threw themselves at each other in a pitched battle around a vital river crossing. A mass Night Lord infantry assault threw themselves at the disciplined gun line of the Iron Hands. Tank treads, contemptor claws and bolters tore at each other in a battle that lasted mere hours. After the carnage and the dust had settled, the Iron Hands held the river, and the bridges.
With the Loyalist forces close to turning the tide, the combined forces of the Word Bearers, Sons of Horus and World Eaters set upon the Ultramarines. Favouring a fast attack, Sons of Horus Sabres collapsed an armoured and mechanised the left flank while World Eater and Word Bearers infantry pushed into the Ultramarine lines. The heavy armour and tarantulas of Calth decimated the traitor armour, but a final push of World Eater outriders pushed onto the final objective and set charges which detonated and set off a chain reaction which completed the traitor’s plans.
Campaign Progress
| Battle 6 saw two wins each for the traitors and the loyalists. To split the tiebreak, cycle 1 tie breaker clause was used and the side with the active victory boon lost the round, and ultimately the hex. This resulted in the traitors taking the victory, and the first hex. In this round the Loyalists used the victory boon – Perfect Intel.
